Electrum, in close collaboration with ATML, has successfully designed, supplied, and installed over 50,000 last-mile fiber optic drop cables for the largest telecom operator in Mauritius and Rodrigues. This large-scale initiative was developed to meet stringent technical requirements, ensuring reliability, durability, and ease of installation in a tropical island environment frequently exposed to harsh weather conditions.
The drop cables were custom-engineered to withstand wind speeds exceeding 200 km/h, a critical specification given the frequency of tropical cyclones in the region. Each cable was manufactured with high tensile strength components to resist tension and mechanical stress, while the overall cable structure was designed to minimize sagging over extended aerial spans, maintaining both performance integrity and aesthetic alignment in residential and urban areas.
Additionally, the solution featured specially selected pre-connectorized terminations and ruggedized connectors, which significantly simplified on-site installation, reduced field labor time, and ensured secure, stable signal delivery up to the customer premises.
This delivery stands as a benchmark in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) last-mile delivery, combining design and scalable manufacturing to enable rapid deployment at volume while maintaining strict adherence to operator specifications.
